a Room

We’re driven by a vision we just couldn’t let go You can’t tell by the smiles on our team’s faces, but we take hospitality very seriously — not as an afterthought, but as a craft. At Haddington House Hotel, it has never been just about offering a bed for the night. We aim to create vibrant, welcoming spaces where guests relax alongside locals and truly immerse themselves in our neighbourhood.

Our story begins long before the hotel you see today. The House is made up of a collection of four beautifully restored Victorian townhouses overlooking Dublin Bay in Dún Laoghaire — once officers’ quarters, then a school for young women, and later the original hotel that sparked the name Haddington House.

In 2015, we took on the entire property with a passionate vision: to unify these historic houses into a hotel that honours the past while delivering a luxury experience fully of the moment. This commitment to craft and continuity is what drove our recent, significant bedroom renovations — bringing together classic Victorian character and a contemporary sense of comfort.

A rich history reborn Discovering our muse

Perhaps the most interesting part about Haddington House’s history is that one of the original school’s pupils, Miss Adelaide Haddington, would become a defining influence on the hotel you see today.

Adelaide was a young woman who really stood out among her fellow pupils, not least because of her flaming red hair and emerald-green eyes, but also because of her superior intellect, extraordinary sporting skills and fiercely independent spirit.

A journey to the past and back again It’s been a long journey since Adelaide’s day, and we love turning the page to a new chapter.

While we look to the past for inspiration, we’re equally focused on what makes a stay feel truly special today — comfort, care, attention, and those small details that quietly delight.

This is an ongoing mission, a commitment to offer guests a memorable experience, and continue to surprise our guests with thoughtful touches: complimentary bikes for coastal adventures, flexible check-out when possible, and little gestures that make special occasions feel truly memorable.

And at the heart of it all is the spirited figure who continues to inspire the House today — Adelaide Haddington herself. Independent, curious and full of character, her story shaped the identity of Haddington House and continues to influence the experience we create for our guests.

Discover more about our story — and the spirit that continues to shape the House — offering ever more ways to enjoy time beautifully spent at Haddington House Hotel.

Restoring character

Watch the behind-the-scenes film below for a closer look at the design process, craftsmanship and quiet details involved in reimagining our bedrooms — from materials and lighting to colour, furniture and the atmosphere we hoped each room would hold.

Guided by a simple idea — to retain the soul of the House while thoughtfully evolving the guest experience for today — the project brought together architects, makers, designers and craftspeople to create spaces that feel warm, contemporary and quietly comfortable.

More than a renovation, it was an exercise in preserving character; considered in every detail and grounded in a deep respect for the history of the House.
