Heading up our events team, Nicola has one of the busiest jobs in the house. We sat down with her to talk events, weddings & forensic investigation!

SC: You are the events manager of the house, tell us what the job entails

NC: I am responsible for all parties, corporate events/meetings and weddings in the house, supported by the other heads of departments. I am accountable for the whole process from the planning stage, right through to running the actual day itself and the post-event evaluation (which 99.9% of the time is very, very positive)

SC: How do you manage to stay on top of everything?

NC: Due to brilliant planning, organisational skills and execution! Great cross-functional team work and constant attention to detail. The kitchen throw me a comp Tiramisu when it gets too much!!

SC: Tell us a bit more about yourself, what did you study in college?

NC: I have a diverse background, schooled in Loreto Foxrock (good times), I went to Sligo Institute of Technology to study Forensics (go figure!!). I then worked in the state laboratory alongside the state pathologist on an internship after Sligo and enjoyed this immensely but realised that a career in the lab wasn’t for me. As a result, I went on to complete a masters in hospitality management in DIT and I haven’t looked back since.

SC: How did you get into events?

NC: Passion and drive. I always enjoyed working in the industry throughout college. I am a people person and love the fast-paced environment. No day is ever the same and I get to meet new people all the time. The experience gained though work in hospitality wetted my appetite for a management position in events.

SC: What’s the best event you’ve worked on so far?

NC: All events (big and small) are great but this past summer we linked up with Verve & Diageo to launch their new Kronenbourg blanc beer. I enjoyed the experience of working with Verve, Kennedy Wilson PR and Diageo to transform our House and garden into a slice of the french riviera. The incredible weather on the evening of the launch complimented the theme and we had a ball. Bring on the next product launch at HH!!

SC: What is different about the Haddington House events team?

NC: Haddington House differs from other venues in the city because we are a true multi-space. You can start in our garden, move to our Library Bar, dine in Oliveto and dance the night away in the Oak Room. This flexibility + resources + our incredibly committed team means that an event at Haddington House is always a great success.

SC: For all the brides to be out there – can you give us your best tips for planning an amazing wedding?

NC: Less is more! A lot of clients tend to get caught up in the new world of Pinterest ideas (don’t get me wrong, I LOVE it all too) but it can cause added stress when things don’t always work out and many of the details are missed by guests. Simple, classic and elegant is timeless and your guests will be blown away
